A small valley,borderd by a dense bamboo forest,forms the site for this luxury housing development,situated near the Qiang Tang River in Hangzhou,south-eastern China.The particular charm and beauty of the place are the determining factors.Twelve individual volumes are arranged in a chessboard pattern to create the maximum amount of open space for each building.Through planting new vegetation,each apartment building is set in its own clearing in the forest.

Jianwai SOHO/Riken Yamamoto

Jianwai SOHO is located at 39 East Third Ring Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing (opposite the China World Trade Center). The buildings have a total gross floor area of 700,000 square meters on a site of 169,000 square meters. Jianwai SOHO includes 20 high rise towers and four villas. Currently, 18 towers and the four villas are completed; and two towers are under construction. Upon completion (October 2007), there will be 20 rooftop gardens and 16 pedestrian lanes.

Baiyun International Congress Center (BICC) in China

1 The competition brief
The province of Guangdong and the municipalities of Guangzhou wish to build a new, prestigious congress centre to meet the considerable demand for international and national conferences, the extensive meetings of the provincial and municipal governments and the growing demand for commercial fairs and cultural manifestations.
