About Qingyun Ma

Qingyun Ma(1965),he graduated from the Architecture Department of Tsinghua University(Cibil Engineering).After that he attended the Gradduate School of Fine Art at the University of Pennsylvania.He worked as designer and senior designer with ZBallinger,Philadelphia.He was also one of the pioneers in KPF in developing the New York firm,Kohn,Peterson,Fox business in South East Asia.In 1995,Qingyun Ma found MADA S.p.a.m.,the function of the company’s practices ranged from culture and education,to scientific research,offices and residence.Qingyun Ma has been a visiting professor in Pennsylvania,where since 1997 he works full-time.Since 1995 he is Associate Dean at …

This is a house that Qingyun Ma designed and built for his father on his homeland.Jade Valley in Lantian,located southeast of Xi’an,is the archaeological site of the prehistoric Lantian man.It is also where the greatest poet from Tang Dynasty,Wang Wai,built his second home.To build a house for himself(or parents,being the closest kinship)is dangerously euphoric for an architect.In this position,an architect’s interio and exterior are forced to collide.It is either a fairy tale where no conflict is allowed,or a hide-out where antagonism is consciously avoided.But the process of designing is not …

In year 2007, China Art Institute has programmed 8 museums for 8 individual Chinese artists in Qingchengshan, Chengdu in southwest China.
Among these 8 artists, Wu Shanzhuan is the only conceptual artist whose work interpret or re-interpret our daily life stretched from early 80’s, the very beginning of Chinese contemporary art era.

Jinhua Architecture Park, Zhejiang Public Toilet
A public toilet is indeed a private space. Located in Jinhua Architecture Park among sixteen other public pavilions designed by architects worldwide. This public facility is organized as individual units, maximizing the privacy while minimizing land use in the park. These units can be reproduced and installed flexibly according to future needs. The bending tube shape ensures protection and privacy, as well as functional requirements such as ventilation and natural lighting, without interrupting the connection between user and park.
